Some spiritual guidance came to me for a client over the past week, thought I would share it with my health and fitness fans.
When people with BED, binge eating disorder, try to lose weight they often check with a free app on how many calories to eat in a day.
The problem that may arise for some however is they may ignore the problem that got them to the point of needing to lose weight to begin with.
In order to gain or lose one pound someone would have to consume 3500 calories more to gain or less than their maintenance calories to lose.
Someone with BED isn’t going from 1700 maintenance calories a day to 1200, they are going from 2300 on average to 1200. Because they have been overeating, and most likely are not counting those calories. Now that is an average over a week, most likely they do semi-well many days and then over eat more than 500 cals for 2-3 days. 3000 calories is easy to do, 4 slices of pizza, one fast food burger and fries, and 4 cocktail drinks, that is 3000 calories.
Spirit offered one suggestion this past week for a client. Instead of going from 2300 all the way down to 1200, try to do maintenance calories daily consistently first, then add exercise with it 2-3 days a week to create the caloric deficit. That may seem less extreme on your body and mind and get you used to what is maintenance calories for you, rather than a huge drop in calories that seems like too little food. If you are someone with BED you’ve been eating a lot of extra food every week, 1200 calories will seem like too little and may do too much mental damage in what it will take to lose weight and keep it off. Get comfortable with what maintenance feels like first.
To figure out your BMR or basil metabolic rate you can Google calculator and BMR. Enter your information and it will give you the basic amount of maintenance calories you need without exercising. For any calculator that asks for level of activity, unless you are a body builder be realistic, leaning towards conservative.

Then why do commercials say you are wasting your time just doing cardio on the elliptical or treadmill, while basketball players and runners look so thin?
The short answer is they want your money and are leaving details out by saying you won’t lose weight doing cardio to hook you to listen in and buy their products.
There are 3 main ways I’ve lost weight, here is my article on those methods. One method that worked was to do cardio and watch my calories. I am a certified weight loss therapist and member of IAOTH.
They tell you cardio is a “waste of time” to hook you into listening, becoming attached, convinced they are an expert and to buy. After you’ve bought it they tell you what you don’t want to hear, to watch your calories. Essentially the detail in the videos they leave out is you have to watch your caloric intake when you exercise, otherwise with no caloric deficit, cardio, HIIT or anything else won’t help you lose fat.
The main successful method of weight loss regardless of how many details different people trying to sell you plans try to confuse you with is to have a calorie deficit. You already know that I’m sure, but many commercials and other articles confuse you and skew you off your path in hopes to sell you their products. So what these plans are leaving out in their commercials but eventually tell you when you buy it is that you have to watch your calories. Doing a lot of cardio without watching your calories probably wouldn’t help you very much if you’re not ending up in a deficit, that is true, however you don’t have to be a mega weightlifter to lose weight. You can lose fat not doing any exercise at all and most of the weight I’ve lost is strictly watching my diet.
I talked about the three methods that I’ve actually used to lost weight and my article here if you want to look at the details. I hope you found this useful to clear out the confusing clutter that a lot of commercials try to hook you with. Cardio can be very useful in burning calories and burning fat, don’t leave it out of your regimen if you plan on using exercise in your weight loss journey. It’s also good for the heart, hence the term “cardio”.

For some of us the time before your period can spur a food binge, where even counting your calories is not a deterrent to over eating. It seems nothing can satisfy and nothing makes you feel full. In just a couple days you can undo all the hard work you put in a week.
Little Reasons Why
When pre menstrual syndrome starts your estrogen levels lower and progesterone increases. Estrogen at normal levels help you feel full like leptin and increased progesterone makes you feel more hungry. The thyroid also fluxuates at this time. These hormones can make you feel hungrier and less satisfied as your body now craves more sugar and carbs to “feel better”. This all adds up to insatiable craving even when not hungry.
What to do?
Well, not everything is as hopeless as your thoughts may tell you. That urge to go out to a restaurant and order everything on the menu is a secret call for help from your brain due to hormonal fluxuatuons.
Drink a pint of water with lemon and 1 tbsp physillum husk. The husk expands in your system and provides hunger busting fiber.
Before you drive to Taco Bell and order a gordita with nacho chips, churro and large fries, make this meal instead: 1/2 cup 100% whole wheat pasta, 1 cup broccoli florets, 1 cup chopped spinach, 1 diced roma tomato, 5 sliced black olives. Use spices garlic powder, salt and pepper. Without using butter and oils to trigger more craving, this is super filling and healthy! If anything else, you’ll have less room for the gordita!
Any sugar, high fat and salt cravings you have use the psychological tip to tell yourself “Later”. This will calm the mind down for a time while you cook the meal above.
500 mg magnesium -this not only helps with cramps during your period but helps with the chemical imbalance going on in your system
200 mg 5-HTP (morning and night around 4 or 5pm) -this is a precursor to serotonin to help you feel better (mood booster and appetite surpressant)
1000 mg L glutamine – help with sugar cravings
B complex – helps with serotonin production
Chromium (optional) – for sugar cravings
Inositol (optional) -helps with mood
Lay down for an hour, make sure your tummy is covered (heavy blanket or pillow) and your back as well. This will help comfort you and calm down any nerves.
Then take out your cell phone calendar. 3-5 days before your estimated period start these tips. Put the events as a repeated event monthly and link this article so you have all you need to suceed!
Don’t forget to forward to your girl friends and like! Thank you!

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook. Stir in garlic in the hot oil until onion is just tender, 5 to 10 minutes. Add Brussels sprouts; cook and stir until sprouts are tender, 8 to 10 minutes. Add cole slaw mix.
Mix in balsamic vinegar, butter, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder into Brussels sprouts and cabbage mixture. Stir until the sauce has covered the cabbage and brussel sprouts.
Dice and slice all ingredients except the spinach, hummus, and goat cheese. Place everything in a bowl, offering hummus on the side. Hummus is a great pairing with this dish as well as the referenced raspberry dressing above. Enjoy!
I’ve lost 130 pounds in my life. I see the same commercials you do, even tried some of the plans that sell you on the dreams of floating through life eating what you want, magically being able to use moderation and eat that chocolate cake (there is a reason why you can’t), and never being hungry only to find when you wake up in the morning you are 50 pounds thinner!
If you believe that, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I want to sell you. No really, it’s in the back, let me show you.
To cut to the chase, these plans are selling you on dreams. They are marketing ploys. They have listened to the common complaints and questions and are trying to sell you their product. Tried some of them, they don’t work. Here is what did work that helped me lose 130 pounds. Here is what my top 3 untruths that diet plans try to sell people.
1. That you’ll never be hungry. “Just eat more fat, don’t be hungry, and you’ll lose fat!” False. In every plan that I’ve used I was hungry at some point. Increasing fat never worked for me yet and may be why keto didn’t (although I do use Keto or low glycemic recipes to help me with my macros). You’ll be hungry, not all the time, but on occasion. Being hungry is a way for your body to signal to you it is using its fat reserves to function and to go find more. You want the body to use that fat instead of eating more food. You learn to be ok with with feeling a little hungry, you adapt and it no longer bothers you. You redirect your attention to something else. To be able to lose weight and never be hungry is a marketing ploy. Don’t expect to glide through weight loss without hunger and you’ll get past hurdles in your journey.
2. You don’t have to count calories. False. None of the plans worked when I didn’t count them. The plans that worked, I always counted them. If you’ve memorized them so you don’t have to count them and consistently eat the same things, that works. That works because you’ve counted them at some point and you know you are creating a caloric deficit. Some skinny girls can count the calories in their mind. Studies have shown that overweight people have the ability to forget what they’ve eaten in a day or be completely oblivious to how much they’ve eaten.(1) That is how weight gain starts, so a habit needs to be changed. You need to be more aware of what is going in your mouth.
3. Once I lose the weight I don’t have to diet again. If I do have to diet again, I’ve failed. False. Even skinny girls diet or detox. My Dad has always maintained his weight but I will hear from him that he “feels it” when he’s gained 2 or more pounds and will cut down on some foods for a short period of time. What I have found is they catch the weight gain within 2 to 5 pounds and nip it in the butt good before it is out of control. Overweight people let it slide for a lot longer or feel like a failure if they aren’t able to maintain magically for all time. Expect you’ll have to watch it after you lose all the weight and make adjustments. Be more in tune with you and your body, continue to get on the scale after you lose it, continue to measure and be mindful of the calories. Its how you lose it, its how you keep it off.
You think I gave you all you need to know? Kind of. I did clear the clutter of false advertising. You could take that and run with it and be successful, in theory.
However you also may run into psychological problems such as binge eating, hopelessness and spiritual problems such as being ungrounded, energies and entities that set you up to fail.

I lost 130 lbs, and I’m going to keep the first part of this very simple, as people often get confused with all the advertising. If you want more detailed information I have a weight loss packet along with accountability sessions and other informational sessions on my website. I am now an IAOTH CPD certified Nutritional Therapist. Click on the link to go to my packet.
These are the three ways I’ve been able to lose fat and reshape my figure.
Watch my calories and keep them to the recommended limit using an app such as Lose it. In this method I did not pay attention to macros in other words I did not try to stay low carb. This is probably one of the slowest methods that I’ve gone through but it still works, creating a caloric deficit and thereby the body uses your stored fat. Its also the simplest method. Use a progressive calorie daily total adjustment for plateaus.
Going super low carb, less than 50g a day, high protein and a lot of spinach, and low fat too (not “Keto”). Spinach is it good appetite suppressant and diuretic meaning helps you lose water weight. I did not exercise in this plan. This is the fastest method I have used, but not for the faint of heart. Expect moodiness and use supplements such as MCT oil and others to help with moods and energy swings.
Watching my calories as well as exercising. I would exercise in the morning before I had eaten anything, taking my BCAAs and pre-workout supplement, I would do 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weight training. I felt awesome after my workouts, I could feel my body changing quickly and I had way more energy and positive attitude. Other than food, exercise can uplift your mood as well and it’s probably one of the healthier ways of doing that. I would still watch macros, about 50g of whole wheat, which is a 1/2 cup. Best way to have this was my flat bread, recipe here. No extreme mood swings, if anything I was happier. Use a progressive calorie daily total adjustment for plateaus.
To be honest keto never worked for me longer than a week. I’ve tried it twice now, I didn’t have long-lasting results, a lot of mood swings. Maybe it was just my body type, I don’t know because I’ve seen other people have success or say that they do. What I found is keto give you a false sense that in order lose weight you will never be hungry because you just load up on fats, so you have the expectation going into it that you’re not going to be hungry. I think that’s false. I don’t think I ever lost weight on any plan that did not make me hungry at some point. I think you may be hungry, because that’s your body singling to you “hey I’m using up your fat preserves, I don’t like this I wish to survive, eat more food!” So going in with an expectation of never being hungry I think is not good, and loading up on more fats has not done positive things for me. I did keto while watching my calories, still didn’t get the results I was looking for. The other 3 above were more effective. When I watched carbs I was also low fat.
Keto may not be the right fit for you. Low carb, yes that helped me, but with low fat as well. I was hungry at some point in all of these plans, got used to it, and liked the slimmer figure as a result. I would say if you really want to lose weight, expect to get hungry every once and a while. Work on your fear of being hungry. Hunger is not something to cure, you have plenty of food, you can eat “later”. You’ll be ok with a little hunger.
I do not recommend drinking alcohol on these plans either, it can affect your pancreas, which regulates insulin and glycogen, and may slow down your progress. Have a doctor do a full blood panel with Lipase to see if you have organ issues that may be negatively affecting your weight loss. If your Lipase is high you may have a pancreas issue and need to be on low fat and no alcohol to continue to lose weight.
Now what I do is use some of those keto recipes to supplement sometimes like for dessert, so I can feel like I’m having a dessert without spiking my sugar, thereby releasing insulin, which causes the body to store fat. Just count those calories, and macros if you are using that route.
Also, ditch the idea that you can lose weight without counting calories. Won’t work. Just like losing weight without getting hungry every once and a while. Won’t work. Your body wants to keep you alive, it will signal to you to eat and even store fat sometimes. So going off of only your feelings on how much to eat may not cut it. Never worked for me. That’s just commercials trying to sell you the dream.
You think I gave you all you need to know? Kind of. I did clear the clutter of false advertising. You could take that and run with it and be successful, in theory.
However you also may run into psychological problems such as emotional eating, binge eating, hopelessness and other spiritual problems such as being ungrounded, energies and entities that set you up to fail.
There is way more to tell you but that is the advice of the day. My packet gives the other components such as psycholoigcal tricks and spiritual tips to help you succeed long term. Keto may not work for many of you because of the mood swings, the expectation that you will never be hungry which is not logical, and having too much fat in a diet may not be the best way to lose fat.
I have other weight loss and fitness advice in my blog, feel free to go through my blogs which are ad-free. Also I have a weight loss packet along with 3 months of sessions for questions and support.
Listening to my weight loss clients and listening to their questions, I thought I might address this one first. Other blogs to come on my weight loss plan so stay tuned to this blog and click the “follow” button.
First, I watch the same commercials that talk about weight loss that you do. Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Slim Fast and the like. I’ve even spoken to my own physician on their advice concerning weight loss. When I went to my doctor I’d have to say I was very disappointed after the session. She offered very little detailed advice when it came to how someone should go about weight loss other than to create a caloric deficit and maybe watch the quality of the calories you put in. I think it takes a lot more than that. As you well know, and if you’re reading this blog, you’ve probably been through a few plans yourself, there’s a psychological component that is very important. There’s also a spiritual component that I haven’t seen any of these plans with commercials on TV address. Honestly many of the plans that say that they are “holistic” truly aren’t as they are not including the spiritual. That’s what makes my weight loss plan different, I give you solutions to the spiritual as well as give you summaries on the psychological articles and books that I’ve read. Being successful myself with 130 pounds lost, I can walk you through some of the pitfalls and some of the problems you may encounter so that you can be successful. You can find my weight loss plan here.
Second I’m going to refer to some psychological advice that I overheard once. I think it’s a great illustration of what a lot of people go through. They said that if you keep repeating a pattern then you must be benefiting from it in some way. In other words if you continue to choose chocolate cake, you’re probably benefiting from it in some way. Mood, escape, a break from work. In this case let’s say it could be the short-term pleasure and the boost to your mood caused by dopamine and/or serotonin from the sugar. My plan does give you some psychological advice as well as some supplements to help you through things like that. They said in order to break the habit you no longer want, you have to realize what you’ve been benefiting from it in some way and realize that you have to give up whatever that benefit is. Are you ready to get rid of the short-term pleasure in order to achieve the long-term results you would desire?
Next I’m going to tell you something that no one else will. I feel like it’s something that you should consider instead of suffering for the rest of your life over this. Maybe you’re not willing to compromise the short-term pleasure for the long-term benefits. You keep making that choice, maybe that is just it.
Maybe it’s not a thin body alone you are really trying to achieve, maybe it’s a relationship you desire. Relationships are full of hard work, intimacy issues, sickness, not to mention rejection, death, separation and loss. There’s a lot of negatives to relationships that I deal with when doing readings on a day-to-day basis, but there’s a lot of pleasurable effects as well, which I’m sure you are aware of. Subconsciously, you may remember the negative aspects of being in a relationship. That its not all dandy all the time. My parents have been married 55 years and I can’t say that they were 100% happy all the time, relationships are filled with ups and downs. So if you’re trying to lose weight for the reason of having the relationship you desire, there may be some other subconscious beliefs that are holding you back, some fears of being in a relationship or even intimacy fears. So a relationship would be even more work after you’ve lost all that weight. After you’ve lost all that weight, you will have to find other coping mechanisms other than alcohol and food to deal with those additional emotional relationship problems that are now in your life. Sometimes being single can be easier, and we’re fortunate enough these days that we don’t need a partner in order to live, own property, or to put food on the table. You may be choosing to be single. Doesn’t mean that you don’t want the “ideal relationship” in Hallmark movies but subonsciously you may not want all the negatives. So that snickers bar looks far more tasty to you mentally, physically, and spiritually right now than all the work that a relationship would be in the future. You’re making a choice. You’re making the choice of short-term pleasure now versus long-term work and some occasional up and down happiness. That happiness in the relationship may not be continuous and on some level you know that. If you’ve come to this conclusion, and you’ve admitted to yourself that this is truly what you want, good for you. You’re way ahead of so many people struggling and purchasing so many weight loss plans. If you’re willing to give it another try, and think you just need some more spiritual advice along with the psychological and the physical plan, take a look at my weight loss packet and we can start the journey together.
Lastly I really want to emphasize the grief cycle here. When we perceive a loss whether that is loss of being able to eat chocolate cake whenever we want, cheese and crackers, or mashed potatoes with gravy, we can go through the grief cycle. A lot of people experience depression when they first start a weight-loss plan along with the detoxification effects that their body is going through. I should also note that if you went through the previous paragraph and you’ve decided, “you know what, I think I’m going to give myself a break and accept that maybe I don’t want to go through what I have to go through the rest of my life to be and stay so thin”, good for you, note that there may be a loss of Hope in some way, which can lead to you going through the grief cycle. If you start to feel depressed after realizing any of this, I asked God in a prayer or meditation to help you get to the end of the grief cycle which they call that stage “acceptance.” This will help you get over the hump a lot quicker and prevent you from falling back into the habits and patterns of depression, sadness, anger, or bargaining.
Now despite the decadence of chocolate cake, I was still able to lose 130 pounds, so it is possible, with some help. Check out my weight-loss packet.

When I first started running back in 1995 I didn’t really know that there were a few things to watch out for so you didn’t hurt yourself. I hurt my knee when I was 16 and never really knew why until I picked it up again in recent years. For those trying to lose weight or become more fit, here are the few things I’ve learned over the years:
Stretch: Stretch before and after you run. Sit on the ground, tuck one leg under so your foot touches your other thigh and touch your toes on the leg that is outstretched (or try your best). Do this for the other side. Second, make a butterfly shape with your legs by touching your feet together and stretch your hands past your feet. Third, lift your leg behind you holding on to your ankle. Forth, stretch both legs out and touch your ankles or feet. Do each of these for at least 15 seconds.
Find the right shoe for you. Look at the bottom of your current shoes. Where is the wear, on the inside or outside of the shoe? I found out I was supinated, which is when you wear out the outside of your tennis shoes and I ended up having pain on the outside of my legs around the ankles and shins after I exercised. Once you figure out if you are pronated, neutral or supinated, get the right shoe for you so you’ll have less pain. This has helped me significantly whether I’m walking, using the elliptical or running.
Posture: Swing your arms front and back, not cross them in front of you. Keep your arms bent at a comfortable, loose L shape. Also, have loose shoulders so you don’t have shoulder pain. Keep your head up and level, not strained, looking out to the horizon so your don’t have neck pain. Great free video to illustrate this whole process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRkeBVMQSgg
Balance your weight: This might be difficult for those of you that dominate on one side of the body. I found my right side would hurt after running (hips, knee, shoulder and back). My right side would do much of the pulling and get most of the impact and this was happening automatically. My left side would feel perfectly fine and light as a cloud. Actively think about balancing the two sides, emphasizing the non-dominant side. Actively think that your non-dominant side has to pull its own weight.
Practice makes perfect, you might have to pay attention to your posture and balancing for a while before it becomes automatic. When you stretch and balance everything out you’ll experience less pain and actually have more endurance because your dominant side isn’t doing all the work anymore. My knee, back, shoulders, neck and hips don’t hurt anymore after running, so it is possible to correct for these common issues. Happy running!

A new healing technique was revealed to me through meditation a week ago that has profoundly affected how I feel and think so I wanted to pass this along.law of attraction not working, law of attraction not working, law of attraction not working In my readings Law of Attraction has popped up as one reason why some of my clients are having similar patterns in their weight, love life and other undesirable “one step forward, two steps back” patterns. The other being beliefs and fears, which actually is intertwined with this idea because beliefs may affect how you react, see or “feel” about the situation.
Law of Attraction and Karma Concepts
When I talk about Law of Attraction what I mean is when we put thought, feeling, action and words towards an idea. The feelings, thoughts and words can the attached to something we do want in our life but also something that may be unfavorable.
Recently when watching a Hindu guru talk about Karma he said that culture has twisted the term a bit into meaning revenge against another when basically it just means “action“. During my readings clients will ask me if those that hurt them will receive something negative in return, essentially if “karma will get them back”, and often times from angels and above I receive a no response. The reasoning is usually (to sum up generally) because there are various perspectives in each situation and the reasons why we do things that can be varied (energy, lessons, feelings, reacting to beliefs).
I do believe that we have spiritual aids on certain levels that protect us from ourselves and neutralize some of this but some of the patterns are still left behind so that we can notice them. This can bring us to a spiritual awakening or to give us hints on what we still need to heal.
Weight Pattern Healing (Yo-Yo dieting)
When I was healing one of my clients I received the thoughts and feelings they were putting towards losing weight since their pre-teens. Have you ever looked at a photo years back when you were thinner and remembered at that time the picture was taken you were unhappy with your body weight, but now you would kill to look that thin again? My client focused on their thighs as early as pre-teens, judging the size and look of them, feeling emotions of disappointment, grief, frustration and sadness. Over the years she may experienced energy and thoughts around feeling or looking fat, even though she may have looked better back then than she does now. Essentially my client had been putting thoughts and feelings out there such as “My thighs are big” “I’m fat”, “I’m ugly”, “My thighs are fat”, “My butt is too big”, and so on.
The energy and belief that “my thighs are too big” were repeated in her mind over and over again, even when they were thinner, with a feeling of disappointment since her pre-teens. Imagine that as a cloud of energy getting bigger and bigger over time as she continued to feel it and think it, even mention it to her friends. Then imagine energetic forces to “make beliefs come true” affecting how you feel or think, such as “I’m on a diet but really need chocolate cake right now”. Over time these feelings, thoughts and actions create a “cloud of energy” affecting how she felt, thought, acted and what she attracted, creating undesirable patterns. What psychologists recommend is creating habits, but if you’ve been down that path you have “to be good” and stick to the plan for weeks, resisting strong forces telling you to do otherwise. With this healing I noticed results with some patterns in less than 24 hours, a big difference and relief. Less resistance mentally and emotionally to do the things you really want to just because you made choices in the past before you knew about the power of action.
The Jacob LOA Healing Method
When I meditated, a celestial healer by the name of Jacob appeared to me, and gathered the cloud of energy created from undesirable patterns. He put that energy into a bucket, transforming it into a green energy. This essentially heals it or neutralizes it. Then this is replaced with positive beliefs such as “My thighs are thin”, “I am thin”, “I am happy thin”, “I have a healthy body”. Combined with the feelings of happiness or contentment, these were written as sentences.
Imagine those sentences being written once, then repeated until it forms a square (see attached illustration at top), then repeated over again behind that square until a cube is formed. Then imagine the cube being repeated until it is a square of cubes, then the square of cubes repeated behind itself creating a cube of cubes, filling the energy that was once the cloud of black energy. This was the visual representation showed to me as how to replace the negative feelings, actions and thoughts with something more positive. This cube of cubes of positive energy was then put into another bucket, turned green with fireworks exploding from the bucket, lighting up the sky. The healing is done when the fireworks stop. Don’t forget to ground when you are done!
I did some of this healing on myself for different areas of my life and noticed a positive difference within 24 hours for some patterns. Some example topics that I may have worked on with clients:
Suppressing happiness feelings or feelings of Joy to fit in or please others
Putting too much thought, energy, love into unrequited love
Running away from those interested in me but I’m not interested in (always a mismatch)
Dreading working, career, negative beliefs around career
Negative feelings towards coworkers, bosses, friends, family, etc
Disappointment in relationships, emotions around when romantic interests are disappointing, endings in relationships
Relationship fears (disease, death, loss of power, no respect, conflict, communication)
Waking up with enthusiasm instead of dread, not wanting to leave bed
Choosing healthy foods instead of sugar, unhealthy carbs (actions), replace with being happy with healthy foods and being thinner (this works!!!!)
Stacked up energy from the thoughts and words of others that I couldn’t do what I wanted (lose weight, be successful, make money)
Fear around the paranormal, reacting out of fear
Feelings around weight yo-yoing, size and look of different body parts
Caring about what someone thinks and doing what I think they’d want (starts with parents)
Using food or drink to celebrate or reward
We may react to instances in our life for various reasons, biological, mental, past lives or social. That doesn’t mean we are stuck with these negative patterns for the rest of our lives, there is a way to transform the energy just as it can be created. This is an awesome healing that works.
This is an original healing method, so please be respectful and reference the author and article when sharing with friends or clients.

The delicious combo of the sweet blueberries, creamy goat cheese and the roasted beet is a lively twist on the usual dinner salad. Add walnuts or chicken for more protein or keep it light by skipping the dressing!
Slice or cut your beets into quarters, brush with olive oil, salt and pepper on each side, and bake in oven at 380 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes if in slices, or 40 minutes if in large quarters. My recommendation is to cut in 1/4 inch slices, roast for 20 minutes at 380 degrees and you’ll end up with crispy edges with a taste almost like a potato chip. Prepare red onion, avocado, blueberries and toss with spinach. Once the beets are ready toss them in the salad, salt and pepper to taste and dress with desired dressing. My homemade caesar dressing can be found here. Easy and delicious! beet salad beet salad
It’s the holidays, what’s the first thing you think of? Some people might say the beautiful lights, the decorations, their families but a lot of us think about the food. Think of all the delicious cookies, cakes, turkey or chicken with stuffing, not to mention the pies. Added to all that food that can stimulate our mind due to high levels of sugar, salt and fat, we are receiving a lot of love during that time from family. We are happy and relaxed because we’re not working and taking time off to be joyous. You’ve now created a series of happy memories connected to food and love. eat healthier, eat healthier
Ok, a lot of us want to eat healthier. However it can be a mind game if you prefer high fat, salt, processed or sugary foods. These are high-glycemic and can signal our body to store fat. There are many different angles to look at when trying to change how you eat. Some of it is due to chemical addictions and some of due to habits. The links take you to my other articles on these topics.
I briefly wanted to touch on the subject of memories that we attach to food and how to best change that for the better.
Okay, I think we’ve established that we’ve associated love, holidays, happiness, and a break from work to food. How do we attach a happy memory to food that does not include foods that cause us to gain weight? I suggest you start by creating happy memories around healthy foods.
During the holidays you are receiving attention, love, breaks from work, and someone is serving you food (one of the 5 love languages, acts of service). How do you create new memories around healthy foods where you feel as excited, loved and relaxed?
5 Tips to Happy Memories around Healthy Foods
1. Eat out at a restaurant by beautiful nature or has a great atmosphere. Actively choose a healthy option. Create the mindset that you are creating a happy memory for yourself. Invite friends, family, or of they are unavailable or do one of my favorite things and sit at the bar and talk to people there. Go somewhere you know will be happy, it can be a lakefront restaurant, one with a hip atmosphere or somewhere romantic.
2. Cook something healthy then make it beautiful on your plate. Have the mindset you are creating a happy memory. Ask God or archangels to fill your love tank. Watch your favorite movie, put on your favorite music or invite friends over.
3. One of my favorites was to draw a bubble bath and create small appetizers on cute plates. Eat them while laying in essential oils, bubbles and listening to soothing music. You’ll feel cared for (receiving love from yourself). Another option is to create an essential oil lotion, lather your entire body, lay in your most comfortable clothes or robe on the couch and eat small bites.
4. Go to an adventure park or zoo and get the fruit spears or salad. Watch your favorite animal or show while eating healthy. Visualize or feel happy while eating and watching.
5. Actively prepare healthy but interesting meals for parties with friends and family. Choose the healthy options knowing intellectually that this will help create happy memories around that food. Inform your friends and family why we are doing this, they may join you as it does make sense even to those not into metaphysics.
Remember, healthy food doesn’t have to be boring. Steak salads, nut mixes, many Greek and Moroccan plates sans the bread can be very satisfying.

Something was revealed to me today. Ever since my energy healing training, the seemingly random cravings to buy or consume seemed to increase. There would be a carrot or a reward at the end of doing what I wanted, such as an angel or God sign (repeating numbers, feathers, coins, signs). However, sometimes this would lead me into problems such as gaining weight, or going over budget. As I wandered the store today I pondered why I would still feel a craving to buy after meditating, when “they” know I have a budget. As I say to myself I have a budget, I usually have this thought inside me that says “that’s not the metaphysical way of thinking”, “that is scarcity or that is limited thinking”. The universe is abundant. However through experience I know that to continue to ignore a budget or your diet leads to putting yourself in a place where you have to do something more extreme other than maintenance to get back to your goal.
I received the wisdom while walking around that there are so many things in the world that you could buy. Zoom out and think about the entire world, all the bazaars and marketplaces in Moracco, Israel, India, China and so forth. You will not be able to buy from them all and store it, so there may always be a wanting or craving at some point, no matter how rich you become. Knowledge of this, the concept of “knowing” that there are so many things out there you could buy, that could bring joy in the short moment, but you could not possibly buy them all for lack of space, budgetary reasons, or in order to keep a slim body, this concept will help you understand that you can’t possibly please all of these forces that want you to buy, whatever their motivations may be.
There are a lot of people that ask for financial abundance and money, or people have jobs connected with these retail items, so there’s a energetic pool out there tugging you to buy, creating these cravings. These forces aren’t always necessarily evil it’s just there’s a lot of energetic pulls and you can’t satisfy them all. Even Bill Gates can’t buy everything and store it, he has a limit too.
Understanding that people are asking for abundance and you can’t possibly satisfy them all, will hopefully give you a release by separating you from the emotion and give you peace.
My recommendation? Don’t look at it as an evil craving and attach good or bad to it, look at it from the knowing that there’s a lot of beings and energetic forces out there. Know that you can’t satisfy them all so don’t feel guilt or loss. Keeping a budget, or keeping a caloric diary, will help create the boundaries and limits that help you succeed in your goals. They help you to know when to stop listening to that craving to buy or consume the next thing. Those forces pulling you to go outside of those limits aren’t necessarily evil, they just exist. Buddha talked about the wanting, so did Jesus, and both recommended balance.
Set your boundaries, write them down, when the wanting comes tell them you are at your limit. After this, if its supposed to be, then watch the magic happen to being it to you if necessary. If nothing happens, you didn’t need it, it was for a different reason such as someone needing to keep their job or someone asking for abundance.
When your budget or calories are up, have a list handy of free or zero calorie activities that make you happy such as walk in the park, listening to music, watch tv, watch a movie you already own, play a game or one of my favorites, take a nap.
Many times clients will ask me how they can change their habits so they could eat healthier. I was able to change my eating habits over the years from fast food & sugar to eating mostly whole vegetables and protein during the day. To get to this point it took a lot of research, trial and error, and reading books from those that succeeded before me. healthier food choices, healthier food choices, healthier food choices
We use habits to avoid timely and stressful decision making as well as to conserve willpower. Habits involve 3 things; a cue, the habit itself and reinforcement. An example of a cue would be when I used to get to the office in the morning I’d go to the kitchen to make a cup of coffee. I found that milk products can make me tired, coffee adds acid to the stomach which makes me feel hungrier and caffeine can make me anxious so I wanted to change the habit of having caffeinated coffee in the morning. In order to change a habit, change one part of the cycle of cue, habit and reinforcement. To change all 3 might be too much of a shock to the system and you may resist the change because the mind may perceive it to be too much change at once. In this case, the cue was I got to work and wanted to get my cup of coffee. While I kept the cue and reinforcement, I changed the habit from getting coffee to getting mint tea, which was caffeine free and milk free. The other change to habit I could do is getting decaf with soy milk. Then the reinforcement was the enjoyment of my cup of hot beverage. You can use this strategy to slowly change your unwanted habits to more desired ones. Make sure that what you do exchange your habit to is acceptable to you, such as I like mint tea but not everyone does. Make sure that your reinforcement is still acceptable to you otherwise the change may not last long.
If you want to eat when you get home every night, change one thing about that process, such as peanuts instead of chips. If you eat cookies at midnight, change it to popcorn instead of cookies. Whatever the change is make sure that it is acceptable to you so that the change is not too drastic and try to do them one at a time instead of changing all your unwanted habits at once. Sometimes you may transition from one food to another. For instance, I wanted to change from having so many burgers and fries to more salad. To change right to salad with no “bridge” from burgers would be difficult, so what I did was I would put everything but the bun on salad, preferably spinach as spinach is a diuretic (lose water weight) and an appetite suppressant. Then over time you will get used to the idea that burger salads, cheesesteak salad or even pizza salads (remove the topping and put on spinach) can be as satisfying for lunch or dinner. Then you can transition from there to salads with less cheese or more healthy protein (chicken, fish, vegan alternatives) once you are comfortable with the new routine.
It may take some time to change every habit you want to change but it is possible. The key is to be kind to yourself, understand the psychology such as change one thing at a time to avoid resistance, know what is an acceptable alternative for you and give it the time you need. You may have been reinforcing some of these habits for decades, like eating once you came home from school turned into eating when you came home from work. You may need more than a day or two to change a habit that has been reinforced over the years.
Some fast notes:
Eat spinach, apples or applesauce with no added sugar, pineapple and green beans as they are diuretics (lose water weight) and are appetite suppressants. They have more fiber to slow the digestive process. They make you feel more full.
Increasing hot water or tea intake during the day will help you to feel satiated and get more water in your body.
If you just downed a whole bag of chips and want more, really what you are is thirsty. Take two pints of water “like a pill”, in other words drink them quickly rather than sip. This will help you to feel full and restore your “sanity”. Same thing after alcohol.
Salt, fat and sugar can create a reaction where your brain and stomach stop telling you that you are full (where did that bag of chips go?). If you ever detox fully from these items you will know what I mean, your satiety can be restored and you feel full eating less whole food. Over time try to reduce these and be aware that chips and sweets have an affect on your brain that cause you to crave them more and remove your satiety. Same goes for artificial sugars. It helps to be aware so you can make better choices in the future.
Best of luck!

“The Power of Habit” by Charles Duhigg
“Willpower” by Roy Baumeister, John Tierney
“The end of overeating. Taking control of the insatiable American appetite.” by Kessler, M.D. David
I’ve done some research over the years on addictions, in my case food, and in my family’s case alcohol. Much of what I have read is science and psychology based, which has value by itself. While the biological process certainly does play a role in how we feel and what we do, as does the mind, I wanted to know the spiritual side because I do know that is a piece of the puzzle as well.
During a reading I received that addictions and cravings for what you are addicted to sometimes arise when you are trying to shut something or someone up, like a feeling or a voice. What you are trying to shut up may be anxiety, voices in your mind you don’t want to hear such as your ego or someone else’s, mixed in with your angels, guides or God. You may be trying to numb a feeling such as grief or a heart break you haven’t quite healed from yet. Go here on my blog on how to heal grief. If the divine is trying to warn you of something, this may cause some anxiety, from the higher vibration as well as other factors, and that is usually an indication to stop what you are doing and do a self check. It was explained to me the higher the vibration, the more anxiety you may feel, particularly if you are not in the light. More to come of this in my book to be published hopefully in 2019.
The recommendation is to stop. Stop. Do nothing. Let the anxiety ground. Then just chill. Do Nothing for a while. 5-15 minutes of do nothing time. Don’t look at your phone, sit or lay down and do nothing. If you are sensitive enough you will feel the energy go down from your head all the way down to you feet. After the 15 minutes, thank your angels, guides and God for being there to bring them forth, imagine a while light around you and ask for guidance or whatever the problem seems to be. The problem may be you’re working too hard or doing too much. You may be using the addiction to get away from worries or work. Its time to do nothing and receive guidance.
The other metaphysical reason for an addiction seems to be a combo of other people asking for more money and abundance as well as your actions in the past. As others ask for more money, you may “answer the call” as I put it to buy what they are selling. What you’ve enjoyed buying in the past is typically what you get pulled in buying again, essentially your actions and law of attraction. So if you’ve felt happy buying chocolate cake, tortilla chips, going out to eat, alcohol etc. that may be what you are pulled into buying again. This is with the combination with the physical and mental highs you receive from these actions.
Other non-metaphysical reasons for addictions usually involve serotonin, opioids and dopamine’s affect on your brain. An excellent book that describes this is “The End of Overeating…” by David Kessler, MD. Intellectually understanding why you feel a certain way can help you to stop yourself in your tracks, rise above the problem and find another solution.
Addiction provides an escape. An escape from work, worries, distraction of the mind, what we don’t want to look at, as well as a mental high. You are ignoring something, many times something deep inside. My recommendation is to stop and do nothing, grief healing, or look into changing habits (actions).

This is a lovely, rich filling recipe for those of you on carb reduction meal plans such as keto, South Beach, etc. Gluten free, low carb. I had this in a New Orleans restaurant and decide to make it home for myself.
Salmon, Shrimp and Portabella Mushroom Ponchatrain Recipe
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup half & half or heavy cream
Tsp of garlic, minced
1/2 cup spinach leaves
1 tsp parsley
Ground pepper to taste
1/2 cup portabella mushrooms
Fish or chicken
Melt the butter in a saucepan and saute your garlic and mushrooms. Add your quarter cup of cream or half-and-half. I find half and half to be rich enough for me but you can add heavy cream if you would like it to be creamier. Add other spices and wilt the spinach in the sauce. A squeeze of lemon could be added here if you wish but I find it’s not necessary and not part of the original recipe.
Pour over chicken and shrimp, fish and crab meat, or fish and shrimp. This goes great on vegetables as well.

Sauté your chicken, mushrooms and bacon in butter. When your chicken is browned on one side, flip it, along with the mushrooms and bacon. When the 2nd side of your chicken is starting to brown, put the swiss cheese and parmesan on top and cover for 1 minute. Uncover and place the bacon and mushrooms in a paper towel to soak up the grease. Sauté your red onion quickly while your bacon and mushrooms are drying. Place your chicken over a bed of spinach, salt and pepper to taste. Top with dried bacon, mushrooms, red onion and diced tomatoes. Either squeeze the mustard in a zig zag pattern on top or put off to the side for dipping. This past weekend I was doing theta healing on myself, and I was going through areas to work on. At some point I was asked what I wanted. I thought peace.
At some point we’d like to just chill. Not stress, not worry, not feel an obligation to be productive. As I am told by my guides & angels, “to do nothing”. Then when I make up in my mind that I will do nothing, this is “do nothing time”, I relax.
The healing visualization I wanted to impart to you that was clairvoyantly given to me was to imagine a white bubble around yourself and energies. Imagine a dove on it, and the word peace written on it. Relax your muscles and tell yourself this is do nothing time and concentrate on the white dove bubble.
Second, imagine God removing all energies you’ve picked up or absorbed around the world. Friends, family, soul mates, places. Imagine God releasing them back to where they came from. Now imagine every where your energy may have gone as well, including those you may have read, healed, thought about, even energy in stores you have stopped by that day. Imagine God’s hand above the Earth vacuuming that energy up transforming it green as in healing it and and then returning it back to you in healed form. Then imagine God removing spirit energy from you, such as earthbound, wayward, those crossed over, anyone from the spirit world no longer serving you. Do the same exchange mentioned above. End with please and thank you God.
