The Forest and Wind Chimes
You start your journey at the start of a narrow path entering the woods. Before you, towering oaks and whispering pines stand like ancient guardians, their branches reaching overhead as if welcoming you into a place where time has slowed. You take your first step, and the world behind you quietly fades.
The forest greets you with a thousand gentle sounds. Leaves rustle softly above as a breeze wanders through the canopy. Sunlight pours between the branches in golden beams, dancing across the forest floor in shifting patterns. Wisps of white clouds drift lazily overhead, occasionally dimming the light before the sun returns, warming your face once again.

You pause to admire the leaves. No two are exactly alike. Some shimmer with bright emerald hues, while others carry hints of amber and gold along their edges. Tiny droplets of dew cling to a fern nearby, catching the light like scattered diamonds. The scent of pine, damp earth, and wildflowers fills every breath you take.
As you continue, you become aware of a backpack resting heavily on your shoulders. It is filled with old worries, disappointments, expectations, and every burden you’ve carried longer than you can remember. You stop in the middle of the trail.
You don’t need to carry it anymore.
With one smooth motion, you slip the straps from your shoulders and gently toss the backpack off the side of the path. It lands softly among the ferns, where nature quietly begins reclaiming it. You stand a little taller. Your steps feel lighter. The air itself seems easier to breathe.
The path curves gently ahead until the trees slowly part, revealing a peaceful clearing bathed in warm afternoon light. Wildflowers sway in every direction, butterflies drift from blossom to blossom, and in the center hangs a single wind chime from the branch of an old maple tree.
There is no house. No porch. Only the wind chime, suspended freely beneath the endless sky.
Its delicate song rises and falls with the breeze—glass, wood, and metal blending into a melody that feels strangely familiar, as though you’ve heard it somewhere long ago.
You walk closer.
The clearing becomes perfectly still.

You look up at the wind chime and quietly ask it the question that has been resting in your heart.
The forest offers no reply.
The birds fall silent.
The leaves stop moving.
Even the clouds seem to pause.
For a long moment, there is only stillness.
Then, the sky responds and the wind starts to blow again.
It flows across the meadow, weaving through the flowers before reaching the wind chime. The melody begins again—not louder than before, but clearer. Every note seems intentional, every pause meaningful.
You understand.
What did the wind chime just tell you?
