Many of my clients these days mention that they apply to many jobs, usually using “quick apply”, but they don’t receive many interviews. Sometimes it creates the illusion of a lot of effort for little gain. When I asked the guides for one of these clients what should they do, the advice was to go directly to the company website and apply instead of using just job boards.

I was curious and looked in my area for open jobs. I noted some of the “openings” on the job board sites and checked with the company’s website to see if the job was posted there as well. Out of 4 companies I looked at none of them had the job that was open on the job board on their website.

Maybe the job boards, or companies, don’t clean up their job postings as much as they should; or the companies that are using them are doing so to gauge prospective interest/get tax breaks/or bank credits as some have suggested. In any case, the guides’ advice seemed on target for today’s market.
