I had a psychic mediumship reading lately where a client asked how they could get noticed by their management for a promotion in a new job. I thought the answer was an excellent one and the answer was very clear from the guides.
They said instead of focusing on doing the “extra” stuff first, they said do the job as it is written. Do your job as described in the written description extremely well first, then you can add one extra hour to your day. They said don’t add 2 to 4 hours or anything like that, as that makes you look insecure. They said just add one additional hour after you’ve conquered whatever you need to learn from the job description. Then after maybe a year graduate to delegating more to the team and training the team so you are doing less yourself, thereby becoming a delegator and a trainer. At that point management will start recognizing you as advancing beyond just the basic job description without looking insecure while doing it.
By doing this you will have demonstrated:
- You know the job as you were doing it well after 1 year.
- That you are not insecure, you are efficient and not trying to burn yourself out by only adding 1 hour past minimum requirements.
- That you can train and delegate instead of just being the worker bee.
