Have you ever been stuck with high cholesterol while trying to maintain protein consumption for healthy muscles? Then you hear plant protein is not a complete protein?
While watching “Blue Zones” on Netflix this past week they discussed a number of characteristics of Blue Zones around the world that contribute to long life. Blue Zones are areas where the occupants reach longer on average life spans, including to 100 years old. One of the advantages seen in South America was the use of the “3 sisters” as a protein source.
Many times protein from plant sources do not have the complete amino acid combination that meat sources do to grow healthy muscles. But Native Americans found out that when you combine squash, beans and corn you do get the complete animo acid profile to build healthy muscles, without all the cholesterol that comes from meat consumption.
The 3 sisters replacing meat in our diet may also help reduce our carbon footprint, as with less methane producing animals and growing plant life can help bring air pollution down.
