I went out one cold morning to a local diner to have a country breakfast; scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, two crispy bacon, sausage, and biscuits and gravy. The combination of a crisp morning and hearty hot breakfast hit the spot as I knew it would.
By the end of the meal, I felt rushed. I had received the bill and saw that as a signal to pack up and leave. I stood standing over my coffee and hurriedly took a “last” drink. On tasting the coffee and hazelnut cream I realized I was rushing for no reason, there wasn’t a line out the door, I could sit and enjoy it a bit longer. I sat down and reminded myself to enjoy the current, where I was, rather than go, go, go.
Once I sat back down, I looked around, and noticed the Autumn decorations on the door window. I hadn’t noticed them before, and I thought to myself how the owner who bought them probably thought people would enjoy them, and he himself probably enjoyed the process of buying them, and putting them up. How sad it would be if this much joy was totally not seen and ignored because we all felt we had to rush.
So this is a reminder to enjoy where you are. My time off only took 5 minutes. Most likely you do have 5 mins, and some cue is telling you to rush or to keep busy, but you really don’t have to. Take the time to enjoy the decor, nature, the smells, and sights around you. You’ll be glad you did.
